Elevate, Empower, Inspire
Funktopia is a nonprofit theater and arts collective dedicated to celebrating the richness of African diasporic cultures. Through bold performances, immersive storytelling, and community-driven initiatives, we create transformative experiences that inspire, empower, and redefine the future of the arts.

Vision
Funktopia™ stands as a beacon of multidisciplinary artistry, championing BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) narratives through vibrant collaborations with both local talents and allies. Founded by the visionary duo of Jonathan Gilmore and Stevanie Williams, Funktopia™️ is a dynamic arts initiative dedicated to highlighting the beauty, hardships, and triumphs of BIPOC ideals through captivating storytelling. Inspired by the timeless wisdom of August Wilson's "The Ground on Which I Stand," we amplify BIPOC voices while fostering unity and partnership."

Mission:
Embracing the essence of Sankofa, drawn from the Twi language of Ghana, we embody the concept of "looking back to move forward." Our mission is to share empowering stories that transcend the confines of systemic trauma, acknowledging it as a part of our collective history rather than our sole identity. We pay homage to our ancestors while envisioning a future emancipated from the shackles of systemic oppression.
Medium:
Our theatrical concerts, reminiscent of rock operas, blend gripping narratives with soul-stirring melodies, weaving together elements of Afrofuturism and Sankofa principles. Through this unique fusion, we celebrate the rich tapestry of Black arts heritage and dare to envision a future where all facets of the African-American experience are honored, not just narratives of pain and struggle. With integrity at our core and kick-ass talent driving our endeavors, we boldly pursue our creative vision.
